ACTRA is, The Alliance of Canadian Cinema. It is the professional union for film/radio/television actors across Canada. In order to become an ACTRA apprentice, you must book one union job. After 3 union credits you are eligible to join as a full ACTRA member. We encourage all actors to join ACTRA when they become eligible.
NO. Agents work on commission. Which means they get paid when you work. Sky Talent Group take 15% +HST of Acting/Print work and 10% + HST of Background/Stand-In/Photo double work.
While you do not pay for your agent, there are costs associated with acting. We expect our actors to always have recent, professional headshots that reflect their current look. Casting sites are another cost that actors should be prepared for.
It is the agent’s job to get you the audition. It is the actors responsibility to take classes, do self tapes, and turn up for an audition prepared. An agent cannot guarantee that you will book something. For children it is approximately 1 in 15 auditions that they will book and about 1 in 20 for adults.
